TPS65982: Quick PDO change like EVM default FW

Hi Team,

My customer is facing hard reset loop issue in Interconnectivity test using released Type-C PD peripherals(Their product is always working as source). According to the engineer, one product seems to draw more current than the value determined by PDO communication. Due to that over current condition, the Source issues hard reset and that is repeated.

Alt mode feature is more important than Power supply function, so they would like TPS65982 to switch to a Source that has only 5 V 0 A PDO.

Do you have any idea to realize their request?

I'm wondering if we can utilize FW setting implementing in default FW and GPIO controls after hard reset condition.

Hi Onawa-san,

You can use the config app tool to create only one source PDO of 5V@0A or with the default (recovery FW) you can use dip switch config ID: 14 (0111)

When there are 0 source capabilities message the Voltage will be set to 5V and the maximum current will be set to 0A as per PD spec. section 6.4.1.2.2

Sorry for my late response on this.
Unfortunately, your suggestion doesn't work in this situation because they are NOT evaluating EVM.

Their application need to have 5 PDO(5V, 9V, 12V, 15V and 20V) and they want to switch PDO according to the peripherals to be connected(Especially, When a device that violates the standard is connected) as below.

[Normal operation]
5 PDO(5V, 9V, 12V, 15V and 20V)

[Non-standard device connected condition]
1PDO(5V safe)

I'm wondering if we can introduce the idea discussing in the thread below though, do you have any document how to use it?

There is also more info in the user Alt mode app note

You can use virtual address and create unique app config sets to be entered upon GPIO event or user alt mode entry/exit.

Is it possible to use the DP function even in this user alt mode?

Hi Onawa-san,

Thats correct, the different user alt modes can enter any mode or multiple modes that are supported by both sides.

They want to control the PDO profiles with following method by operating GPsh 4cc command.
But it didn't work well

Doesn't it allow to control it with 4CC command?
