SN65HVS883: Minimum Load on the +5VOP

Hi Team,

Good afternoon, quick question on the SN65HVS883 - is the CHOK output driven by the +5VOP regulator?

My customer has a load on the CHOK pin and we are interested to understand if we have to take into consideration the minimum load/current of the +5VOP.

Hi John,

From the block diagram in SN65HVS883's datasheet, I do not think CHOK is directly driven by +5VOP regulator. CHOK to me is more like an internal comparator's output and it actually monitors the V24-pin.

Here is the diagram. Since CHOK is isolated from 5VOP, I do not think the load on CHOK is going to affect the 5VOP's loading.

Hi Fan,

I see that in the block diagram as well, however looking at the specs - I see that the CHOK output is around 5V, not a 24V comparator output.

Can you confirm that the CHOK is separate?

Maybe there is another internal 5V regulator for the logic and 5V outputs?

Hi John,

I see your concern now. Would you let me know how much current drawn from the customer's CHOK line and how much current expected to be drawn from 5VOP?

Hi Fan,

At this point, none is expected from 5VOP directly and the load on CHOK is modifiable.

5VOP output is separated from all internal 5V logic, which is implied by the simplified block diagram. Please let me know if anything else I can help with.
