TUSB1210 unused ID pin

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB1210

Dear All

I have a question on TUSB1210.

My customer is designing USB 2.0 host with TUSB1210, and they do not use ID pin.

What is the recommended pin treatment at this case?

I think to short to GND with R might be good.

Is it appropriate?

What is the recommended R value?

A 4.7 k Ohm is appropriate?

Best Regards,

Rhino

  • Rhino,

The ID pin is used in the OTG implementation to set the "default" A and B devices.  The A device is what assumes the host role first in an OTG connection.

If the TUSB1210 is going to be used in a host only implementation, the ID pin must be grounded.  A direct connection is fine as that is how the OTG cable implement the shorting of ID to GND to indicate host.

You can refer to the "MicroUSB Specification to the USB 2.0 Specification, Revision 1.01" specifcation available at the USB-IF Website for more information on the typical micro-A plug and how it connects ID to GND.  Here is an excerpt from section 4.2:

The ID pin on a Micro-A plug shall be connected to the GND pin.
