SN65HVD251: Could you give some refer design for the CAN bus?

Part Number: SN65HVD251

Dears,

I have some question need you give my some suggestion about SN65HVD251 , I read the datasheet the PN can support 200 nodes, I want to konw how far can transmission of between the nodes? And the number of nodes  whether associated with the data rata transmission? Is influence the tansmission distance by the signal transmission rata? Could you give some more detail files? many thanks!

  • Jacking,

In a short answer, there are several parameters which determine how many nodes can be supported on a CAN line. The propagation loop delay of the device and all components on the bus will limit the cable length, a well-written app note describing this, and many of your other questions in detail is located here

In terms of how many nodes can be on a bus, the limiting factor is the load on the bus and leakage current caused by said load. When a device transmits a message, it has to sink or source all of the leakage current on the bus. Along with driving the message, this can cause problems if the current is too great, causing the device to go into thermal shutdown or be damaged. The app note I linked also goes into a bit more detail on this on page 14.

Please let me know if you have any other questions, or would like me to explain something a bit better.

    Regards,

  • Dear Eric Hackett,

    Thanks for your detail reply!

I will read the appliaction report firstly, if have any question I will contact with you. Thank you !

    Best regards,

    Jacking
