DS80PCI800: Transmission distance

Part Number: DS80PCI800

Hi, Expart.
Please teach me about DS80PCI800.

Can I have an answer? About the question below

1)Page14 of Datasheet (Table 2.) has the following description.

"SUGGESTED USE: FR4 5 inch 5-mil trace"

What does this mean?

2) Haw many meters of maximum distance can DS80 PCI 800 transmit data?

3) Which cable is recommended?

4) Is the cable type restricted?
What cable characteristics does it depend on?

Best regards.

  • 1. As the length and attenuation of the input channel increases, the DS80PCI800 equalization setting will also have to increase.  This allows the DS80PCI800 to compensate for different levels of channel attenuation.  The "suggested use" is a recommendation based on a transmitter driving the DS80PCI800 input without any Tx FIR equalization applied.  If the connected Tx uses Tx FIR equalization the optimal DS80PCI800 CTLE setting will be decreased.

    2. The maximum distance depends on several factors.  In general the DS80PCI800 can help to achieve robust PCIe operation in links that have ~ 30 dB of loss.

    3. For PCIe internal SAS cables are often used.  Molex iPass is another option.

    4. The cable used should have the same impedance characteristics as the PCBs to which it is connected.
