DP83867IS: Auto-negotiation configuration, RX_CTRL strap

Hello

 

I have some questions for DP83867IS.

 

1)

There is the below description on 8.3.3.8, P30 of the datasheet(SNLS504B).

“If Auto-Negotiation is disabled by strap option Auto-Negotiation can not be reenabled”.

 

Does it mean it is impossible to reenable Auto-Negotiation by accessing BMCR register?

 

2)

Now RX_CTRL strap is open. it means RX_CTRL=Mode 1.

Then Autoneg Disable strap is N/A.

In this case, which is auto-negotiation set, enable, disable or unknown?

If not enable, is it possible to configure enable by writing BMCR register in this case?

    Hi Oba,

    1. Yes, this is correct. If auto-negotiation is disabled by strap, using BMCR to reenable auto-negotiation is not valid.

    2. If RX_CTRL is in mode 1, auto-negotiation disable = 0. That means auto-negotiation is enabled. But mode 1 is not valid on the DP83867. Please read the table note that says RX_CTRL should be in mode 3 or 4. If that cannot be done, a register setting must happen on every reset of the PHY.
