Hi,

I am working on a project that needs to send VDMs, but when I try to send one using the Host Interface GUI I get the following error message: "Error -> Task Status: 3(REJECT_CMD).

This is with the recovery mode (tps65982_evm_flash_image.bin) firmware on the device. Is there a setting somewhere that needs to be changed so that the VDMs command is allowed?

I tried modifying the code in the DRP Host Advanced template ( uncommented the 'VDMs' command from the cmdReportDict and the cmdTaskReportDict dictionaries) but still got the same error. Maybe a different template would be a better fit for sending a VDM?

You should use the TPS6598x application customization tool that can be downloaded here: www.ti.com/.../tps6598x-config
We also have an app note on user alternate modes that includes some discussion on setting and sending VDMs. You can read about that here: www.ti.com/.../slva841.pdf

Hi Eric,

I am currently using the Application Customization tool to update the firmware. I can load up a project and change the settings in the "Shared Device Settings" tab, but none of those seem to have any effect on the ability to send a VDM using the Host Interface tool and the "VDMs" command. My question was more about if it is even possible to send VDMs without running in User Alternate Mode? If it is possible to send a VDM without being in a User Alternate Mode, which template would provide that functionality?

Hi Ross,

VDMs will only be sent in user alternate modes. If the device you are connecting to also supports alternate modes, you should see a "Discover Identities" PD message sent followed by entering of the alternate mode connected to that VDM.
