TPS65983B: If we can replace TPS65982 with TPS65983B or TPS65986.

Dear Type C experts,

We have designed in TPS65982 in a customer. Now the customer wants to use TPS65983B or TPS65986 to replace TPS65982 to reduce the cost. So I am wondering if we can replace TPS65982 with TPS65983B or TPS65986.

Please see the customer's requirements as below.

1. PD can support 5V/3A output(PD2.0 or above)

2.USB can support USB2.0 and 3.0 flash disk.

3.Support DP 1.2a input

4.Support billboard function

5.Support Vconn function

6.Support IIC firmware updating

Please pay attention to #6. Customer really cares if we have software support of IIC updating.

    Hi Wayne,

    All of the customer's requirements are supported through TPS65986 and TPS65983B and are pin-to-pin compatible.

    However, TPS65983B was designed to be used in a Thunderbolt system with PD3.0 capabilities. The TPS65986 is the most similar to TPS65982, with the difference that the TPS65986 does not support TBT, where the TPS65982 does.
