DS30BA101: Cable extender design with DS30BA101 and DS30EA101 VCC pin 6 floating, copper on top layer, and 50 vs. 75 Ohm trans line

Part Number: DS30BA101
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS30EA101, DS15BA101, DS15EA101

Hello,

We have been experimenting with the DRIVECABLE04 kit that has both DS30BA101 and DS30EA101 in a cable extender application where LVDS signals are connected to Altera Cyclone V FPGA, and a single ended 50 Ohm cables are connected in between. We then designed a custom board board are experiencing few issues that lead us to these questions:

1) The design guide for the kit and data sheets show an example of 75 Ohm single ended transmission line. We would like to use a 50 Ohm single ended. We found the design guide for the DriveCable02EVK DS15BA101/DS15EA101 where a 50 Ohm does exist. Is the value of the RVO is 953 or 487 Ohm for the DS30BA101 and 50 Ohm single ended line?

2) The DS30 eval kit has NO copper plains around the chips at all. Only on the internal layers where the DS15 kit does have copper plains around the parts. Which one is the correct/better way to go about the DS30?

3) On the DS30BA101 pin 6 is floating on the DriveCable04 kit. However, in the data sheets, this pin is marked as VCC therefore leads us to believe it should be connected the VCC. Which one is correct?

Thank you for the help

-Paul.
