Hi Sir,

I want to make a USB dongle, the spec as below:

1. USB2.0 1port + DP (DP1.3, need add redriver) ==> Type-C (Screen)

2. this type-C only transfer DP single to screen, don't provide power, so it only DFP mode.

now, I using TUSB544+TUSB422 solution. do you have any suggestion? or choice SN75DP130 + TUSB320 will better?

Hello Driscoll,

For your application I recommend to use one of the following combinations:

TUSB544 + TUSB422 (you need an extra MCU to act as port manager and configure both devices via I2C)
TUSB546-DCI + TUSB422 (you need an extra MCU to act as port manager and configure both devices via I2C)
TUSB544 + TPS6598x (you need an extra EEPROM to configure the TPS6598x)
TUSB546-DCI + TPS6598x (you need an extra EEPROM to configure the TPS6598x)

The TUSB32x is not an option for you because this device does not support Power delivery nor alternate modes.

Hi Diego,

This application needn't power delivery & ALT mode, so could using TUSB320?

I plan D+, D- , V+, V- contect to Type-C from USB2.0 directly and DP single through SN65DP141 retimer to Type-C.TUSB320 to control CC PIN. that could save one MCU.

what do you think?

PS: Wen TI will release SN75DP170 for DP1.3? SN65DP141 is too expensive. or TUSB544 could use without MCU.

Hello Driscoll,

In order to support DP over Type-C, you must support power delivery because it is an alternate mode and requires the power delivery negotiation in order to enable the DP path. Therefore the TUSB320 is not an option. Unfortunately, the TUSB422 requires an MCU. But another option could be any of the TPS6598x.

Hi Diego,

If I use TUSB422, which MSC suitable for this application and low cost? If choice TPS6598X, I'll choice TOS65981 or TPS65986.

We usually use the MSP340 for testing purposes, this is a technical support forum and we can't provide cost based suggestions.

Hi Diego,

I can't find MSP340, I think it should be MSP430FR5847 (32K FRAM) will be available and lowest cost.
