Hi all,

My team and I are trying to use the TPS65982 EVM board to send custom VDM’s to another PD controller. We just ran into a problem that hopefully you can fix. The board we currently have is using the 2.0 revision of the USB PD spec when we send a VDM. This is affecting the VDM response we get back from the other controller. I am wondering if there is a way to update the TPS65982 EVM to send a VDM with the 3.0 revision of the USB PD spec. Can we use any of the software tools like the Utilities GUI or App Customization tool to do this, or is it out of our control? Let me know if you need any clarification or have any questions.

Hi Danny,

The TPS65982 does not support PD3.0 messaging. However, the TPS65983B does support PD3.0. I would recommend switching to the TPS65983B if you need to support PD3.0

Can we directly swap the TPS65982 chip on the EVM board with the TPS65983B?

What is the difference between the TPS65983 and TPS65983B chips?

TPS65983 is PD2.0 while TPS65983B is PD3.0

Hi again,

Does the TPS6598x Utilities GUI and Application tool work for the TPS6583B? I just looked and found another forum post where a TI representative told someone that there is certain software for the TPS65983B. Is this correct or is the TPS6598x software GUI and application tool all we need?
