DS90UB954-Q1: Reference clock (e.g. like crystal oscillator) on XIN/REFCLK pin ---> Is it mandatory?

Hello everyone,

When using deserializer UB954 is it mandatory to connect an external clock to UB954's XIN/REFCLK pin (e.g. a crystal source), in order to achieve successful connection with ,lets say, UB953 serializer via FPDIII link?
