My customers are considering DP83867IR.

Please teach me four questions.

I understand that the accuracy of time synchronization differs depending on whether IEEE 1588 (or IEEE 802.1 AS) is supported by hardware.

    Please find my response below,

    1. SFD indicator can be routed to a GPIO on the DP83867. The MAC can use this GPIO as an interrupt to time stamp packets. The hardware in this case refers to the MAC and not the PHY.

    2. Unfortunately we do not have comparison data between SFD and hardware time stamp at this time.

    3 and 4. Yes, the MAC should have the ability to monitor the GPIO pin of the DP83867 for SFD interrupt. The MAC will have to use the SFD to timestamp the packets. The timestamp portion of the driver will need to be implemented on the MAC side.
