TUSB1310A: Want to use only USB3.0 part of the PHY

Part Number: TUSB1310A

Is it possible to use only the USB3.0 part of the PHY and not connect any of the USB2.0 PHY signals.

From the datasheet I could determine what to do for most of the signals except a few.

Do I connect DM and DP to ground with a resistor if not used.

How do I connect VBUS if not used and will it influence the USB3.0 side.

Is the PHY_RESETn signal only for the USB2.0 PHY side or also for the USB3.0 side.

Anything else I should look out for if connecting only USB3.0 PHY.

Thanks

Manie

  • Hello Manie,

Please consider that using only the USB3 interface is not USB compliant. Now, if you really want to use USB3 only, you can leave the DP and DM terminals as not connected. The VBUS terminal is an input used to detect the presence of VBUS. We recommend to connect this signal to VBUS using the external voltage divider (please see the datasheet Figure 6-2 Analog Pin Connections), specially when the PHY is in device role. Lastly, PHY_RESETn is a global reset for both interfaces, HS and SS.

    Best regards,
    Diego.
  • Thanks for the replay Diego. This does help.
