DS80PCI800: IF DS80PCI800 have DOS version tool to control equalizer and de-emphasis value?

Part Number: DS80PCI800

Hi Sir

1.If we want use host  smbus to set up equalizer and de-emphasis value. If TI any tool (under DOS) can help to control?

2.for Register ,the CH0-CHB0 as a example, is it mean the CH0 actually correspond PIN defined INB_0 Channel? so 8 channel can be set up independently?

  • Hi Chen,

We do not offer a DOS based tool.  The Sigcon Architect tool runs with Windows and can be downloaded for free.

    www.ti.com/.../sigconarchitect

Yes CH0-CHB0 = The circuit from INB_0 (pins 1-2) to OUTB_0 (pins 44-45).  Yes all 8 channels can be configured independently.

  • Hi Sir

    1. If we set in smbus control. and bios have no write anything in register. if  chip register will be action by default??

    2. If follow default, in smbus control,  8 channel are all the same, and i right?

    VOD: 1.2V  (voltage level??)

    De-emphasis: -3.5dB

    DQ: 0x2F

what is mean that dB at 1.25/2.5/4G Hz ?

    3. what is mean that de-assert threshold / Assert threshold ??

  • Hi Bogey,

Here are answers to your questions.

    1. If we set in smbus control. and bios have no write anything in register. if  chip register will be action by default??

(Lee): Yes the chip registers will start with the default register values for EQ, VOD, and DEM etc.

    2. If follow default, in smbus control,  8 channel are all the same, and i right?

(Lee): Yes all 8 channels are the same.  The default VOD = 1.2V, DEM = -3.5 dB, and EQ = +24.4 dB @ 4 GHz.  This is a very high EQ setting, it is not recommended to stay with this setting.  For most PCIe applications the final setting of EQ is from Level 1 to Level 4 in the datasheet.

(Lee): The equalizer gain is given at several discrete frequencies 1.25 / 2.5 / 4 GHz.  These are the Nyquist frequencies for PCIe Gen1 (2.5 Gbps), PCIe Gen2 (5 Gbps) and PCIe Gen3 (8 Gbps).

    3. what is mean that de-assert threshold / Assert threshold ??

(Lee):  The De-assert and Assert thresholds are for the signal detect function.  In almost all cases it is not required to adjust these settings.  I would simply allow the SD_TH to float to enable the default setting.
