TPS65982-EVM: Sourcing 5V from GPIO

Part Number: TPS65982-EVM

Hi all,

My intern team and I are trying to power peripheral devices using the TPS65982-EVM. We negotiate the correct power contract of 5V@3A, however, we want to use one of the pins on either J2 or J3 to source the 5V to other devices. Is this only possible by adjusting the firmware, because we have used a DMM and tested every pin on both connectors and don't find any pin that outputs 5V. Let me know if you have any questions or need clarification.

Thanks

Danny C

  • Hi Danny,

The TPS65982EVM is intended to be used as a single port DRP USB PD controller. The pins on J2 and J3 are used to communicate with the TI Launchpad and Aardvark SPI programming for firmware update purposes. In the case that your power contract is 5V@3A, the VBUS testpoint(TP3) would read 5V and can be tapped into. Of course if the PDO changes, so will the voltage on that VBUS testpoint.
