Hi,

I tried to test the pair of serializer and deserialzier but it does not work. In the setup configuration, I connected one laptop to the HDMI port of the serializer as a camera or video source and I am connecting the output of the deserializer (which is LVDS) to Logic Analyzer but it does not show any waveform on logic analyzer. Also, I tried oscilloscope but it does not show any waveform. All the displays that I have are VGA/HDMI, so I had to use logic analyzer and oscilloscope to test the devices.

I am not focusing on video application at this time. I just want to send and receive data at both sides. Furthermore, all settings are default when I am powering on the serializer and deserializer and I did not make any changes. I would be thankful if you help me how to test the devices. My final question is that which types of displays should I buy in order to test the video application of these products?

Hi Milad,
How are you connecting the 949 to 948?
1) P1 (DOUT[1:0]+/-) of 949 to J1 (RIN[1:0]+/-) to 948?
2) Double check against the EVM users guide the jumpers and switches
3) Do you have I2C access on either board?

Hi,

Thank you for your response.
1) Yes, but I am connecting only one coaxial cable between them because based on datasheet it is able to work with one physical cable.(D0 + is connected to RIN0 +)
2)As I said in my first post, all jumpers and switches are default case.
3) What do you mean about I2C access? I checked the I2C pins, SCL and SDA on both borads, and it shows some waveforms. Please explain your question in more detail.

Hi Milad,

1) The DS90UB949-Q1EVM and DS90UB948-Q1EVM are default configured to using the STP connector. The SMAs are not connected so hooking up a single coax will not work. If you are using coax then this will require more modification to the board and you will be required to use four (4) coax of the same length as a start. I will need more time to put together the modifications you will need.

2) The reason I asked is I don't want to assume anything.

3) Don't worry about this right now.

I think it takes time to modify the board. Could you please let me know how can I prepare STPS connector?
I searched on Amazon and Ebay but I could not find something compatible with your device.

Hi Milad,

Finding the cable will be extremely difficult for you. This is an OEM automotive cable not sold to the general public.

We have some older cables we are not using that I could give to you.

What is your address so I can send you a sample?

I have some questions. I will be so thankful if you answer my questions.

Reviewing the related datasheet, I realized there is a reverse control channel considered to send some control bits, what I understood, from deserializer towards serializer. Could you let me know what the purpose of this reverse channel is? What are the inputs and outputs for this purpose on evaluation boards?

Second, it seems like there are 8 Audio Channel TDM embedded into the system. Now, my question is that if they are selectable and I can choose one of them to transmit the data towards deserializer depending on what channel is selected in each time frame? Actually, I have a sensor in addition to video source whose signal should be transmitted towards receiver (deserializer side). So, if there are 8 feasible channels, I can use one of them to be allocated to my sensor.
It would be appreciated if it could be cleared up .

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, there is no any Ti store in Vancouver as I checked. Could you please help me change the default settings of the evaluation board in order to use SMA port and coax cable rather than STP cable? I am waiting for your response. Thanks.

Hi Darry,

I have another question. If I use only one coax cable for connection between the serializer and deserializer, do they able to send and receive video data? If yes, Is the quality is 1080p still or it will reduce to lower quality?

The reverse control channel is to send information from the DES to the SER. e.g. I2C, GPIO can be used sending information from DES to SER among other internal housekeeping information.
I2S must have a I2S_CLK at least 1MHz for the I2S audio channel to work.
