DS250DF410EVM: DS250DF410 - the recomended way to use PRBS generatere and checker

Part Number: DS250DF410EVM

Hello team,

My customer would like to confirm about DS250DF410EVM. Woudl you please advise?

1) In the datasheet, Page 10,  " To ensure optimal performance, it is recommended to not enable more than two PRBS blocks (checker and/or generator) per device." is written. Would you please tell me what means?
We can use the only one  PRBS block (checker or generator) to  ensure optimal performance. Is it correct?

2) Is the input clock required when the only PBRS generator is used?

3) The customer would like to use the PBRS generator as the following block.  Does it have problem?

4) What is the difference between Pre-LOCK Output and Post-LOCK Output in EVM GUI in CDR tab? Would you please explain?

5) When PRBS generator is used, atomatically Post-Lock output become Retimed Data. Is it correct behavior?

6) We should set  the output spped of PBRS generator by the CDR configration. Is it correct?

I am sorry that I do not know the EVM behavior because  I do not have a DS250DF410EVM.  Would you please advise me to answer to the customer?

  • Hi, see below inputs to your questions.

Is it correct

    • The retimer consumes significantly higher power when PRBS functions are enabled. We recommend to limit the number pf PRBS bocks enable simulutaneously to no more than 2 per quad, to ensure optimal thermal operating conditions for the device

    2) Is the input clock required when the only PBRS generator is used?

    • The 25 MHz calibration clock is required for all retimer operation
    • In addition, our retimer needs some form of input data at either the full rate or subrate to be able to then recover clock from the data and output PRBS

    3) The customer would like to use the PBRS generator as the following block.  Does it have problem?

    •  Thart setup should be fine

    4) What is the difference between Pre-LOCK Output and Post-LOCK Output in EVM GUI in CDR tab? Would you please explain?

    • Our retimer has two output muxes. One mux determines what the retimer output is when CDR is in locked condition, and the other mux determines what the retimer output should be when CDR is in the unlocked condition

    5) When PRBS generator is used, atomatically Post-Lock output become Retimed Data. Is it correct behavior

    • Yes, that the default configuration

    6) We should set  the output spped of PBRS generator by the CDR configration. Is it correct?

    • Yes

  • Rodrigo-san,

    Thank you for your reply.
