TUSB9261: How to configure the TUSB9261

Part Number: TUSB9261
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HD3SS3212, TIDA-00882,

For the TIDA-00882: USB Type-C HDD: HD3SS3212 reference design, a PD controller is used along with a MUX. Is there a way to just connect the TUSB9261 chip to the signals coming from the USB Type-C connection? I'm looking to have a USB Type-C to SATA conversion but without the extra PD controller and MUX parts. Can I do this? What happens if I leave the DP/DM lines unconnected?

  • Hello,
No, the TUSB9261's firmware only works as a SATA to USB, in order to do that you will have to write your own firmware for the TUSB9261.

  • Hi Elias,

Thanks for the reply! I think you may have misunderstood my intentions though.

I would like to have an upstream USB type-C connection, connected to the TUSB9261, then to a SATA port for an SSD connection. I wanted to know if it was required to have the extra components in this dev kit (the MUX and PD Controller) to do this, since the DP/DM lines connect the PD controller to the TUSB9261. Why couldn't I just have the USB type C connection, TUSB9261, and SATA connection? A simple conversion from USB Type C to SATA?

    Thanks in advance,
    Jason

  • Hello,
You can just connect the DP/DM of the TUSB9261 to the Type-C connector, it will work, but you won't have a true "type-c" functionality.
In order to make it Type-c compliant you do require the controllers.
