DS80PCI402: ESD protection IC on signal line

Hi,

My customer is using DS80PCI402.
Customer's board has ESD protection IC on input line of DS80PCI402.
Please see the below.
Customer uses TPD2E009. Does this affect signal quality?

    Hi Shimizu-san,

    The ESD protection IC will affect signal integrity due to parasitic capacitance.

    If you must use ESD protection diodes for up to 8 Gbps PCIe Gen-3 applications, please use ESD devices with less than 0.3pF loading capacitors. I think a more appropriate ESD device would be ESD122, which has 0.2 pF parasitic capacitance instead of 0.7-0.9 pF in the TPD2E009.

    Note though, that if you are only passing 1 Mbps signal as you have shown in your diagram, than the TPD2E009 should be suitable.
