DP83867CR: Connecting DP83867CR (1GbE) to TLK10xL (10/100)

Part Number: DP83867CR

Can I connect your 1GbE part (e.g. DP83867CR) directly to your 10/100 part (e.g. TLK10xL) via RJ45 connectors and associated CAT5 cabling?  I need to know if they can be wired up together such that they are completely compatible.  I know some 10/100 parts can be compatible with 1GbE parts and then the XCVRs negotiate allowable rates, but I'm not sure that all 10/100 parts, when directly connected to 1GbE, can work this way.  How do the 2 differential pairs of TLK10xL wire up to the 4 differential pairs of the DP part?.  I they can be directly connected, via magnetics, RJ45, and associated cabling, does DP part just detect that TLK part communicates differently over only two of its four differential bidirectional lines?
