TUSB4041I: How to configure the part through pin strap to support battery charging either with or without host connection?

Part Number: TUSB4041I

Hi,

My customer want to configure the part to support battery charge on down stream port 1~4 either with or without host connection. They have tried below configuration: (they prefer pin strap configuration)

PWRCTL[1:4]=1;

PWRCTL_POL=0;

AUTOENz=0;

While the hub can only charge the down stream battery without connection of host. With host connected, the hub neither charges the battery nor communication with down stream equipment. What is wrong with this configuration? Could you please give me a correct pin configuration to support this functionality?

Thank you,

John

  • Hi John,

    Can you share the schematic? Can they confirm that downstream VBUS goes from high to low to high again when the host is connected? This forces the downstream device out of DCP/ACP mode and allows it to reconnect at CDP mode. Is the PWRONx_BATENx pin being used to control the downstream port power switch? This is a requirement for charging mode support.

  • hI Jmmn,

    Thank you for reply. Yes there are two VBUS switches which are controled by PWRONx_BATENx pin of HUB. This is a seperate Hub board, no MCU on it. How can they implement VBUS control?

    John
  • The VBUS toggling when entering / exiting charging mode will happen automatically through TUSB4041 control.  Does the host see the hub, but not the downstream devices?  Or does the host not see either?
