TPS65982: thunderbolt first detection incorrect

Part Number: TPS65982

if host into S5 we plug thunderbolt device then turn on to OS, device management will detect to USB 3.1 HUB <== it's incorrect.

then we re-plug it in OS, it can be detect correctly.

when we plug it and shutdown system in battery mode (AR and PD will no power), then we turn on system, the issue can be duplicated.

our host use 1.12.0 F/W for type-c, but i think it should be setting wrong, can you help to check pjt setting file?

  • Hi Edison,

I'll look into this and will get back to you after some initial testing.

  • Hi Edison,

I'd like to ask more information on the system application. How does your setup use the TPS65982 since I am not clear on how this is being used.

Can you confirm that when the TPS65982 is powered up and not connected to anything, the D5(Thunderbolt™ and APP FW Loaded Indicator) is ON and when connected to a Thunderbolt capable device to it, the LED is blinking ON/OFF?

  • i changed Application Customization tool from slvc621o (1.12.00 bin file) to slvc621q (1.12.00 bin file), and tried several setting between  thunderbolt DRP host advanced & standard, below is my system info:

    KBL-H platform

    TBT NVM rev:20

    TBT driver rev: 17.1.64.250

    PD F/W rev: 1.12.04

    PD setting file: 0810.pjt

    reproduce step:

    1. into win10

    2. plug TBT device (goodway TBT HUB, it's intel reference design with intel PCIe LAN card)

    3. AC mode into hibernate

    4. resume

    5. hibernate resume fail, it will show disk scan then into OS.

    6. check device management thunderbolt PCIe root port, resource page shows I/O range

    7. only fail on AC mode hibernate

    ======

    before setting:

    PD F/W rev: 1.12.00

    PD setting file: 0726.pjt

    1. plug TBT device (goodway TBT HUB, it's intel reference design with intel PCIe LAN card)

    2. Battery mode cold boot

    3. check device management thunderbolt PCIe root port, it can't be enumerated

    4. PCIe root port shows  USB Root Hub as before i posted.

    ======

i think it should PD setting wrong issue, but i tried standard to do a easy setting (0810.pjt) but it still fail...

after that, i flash from 0810 F/W to 0726 F/W,then i re-flash it to 0810, magical things happen, whole issue disappear, but when i into BIOS call globe reset, it will return to 0810 fail phenomenon.

    our expect PD behavior:

    power source only 5V/3A output,

no power  sink input (no PP_HV and PP_EXT),

support display output (it should DFP_D only, pin assign CDE),

    just these.

but i can't make sure what does "USB RP Enable" mean?

which conditions should we need to check "USB RP Enable"?

i will send 0810 pjt file to Omid, thanks for helping.
