TCA6424A: Delay

Part Number: TCA6424A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA6424

What is the delay added by TCA6424A IO Expander Evaluation board ?

  • Hello Bhargavi,
Are you asking how much delay is added by the EVM due to onboard MCU? Can you expand on what specific delay you are talking about?
    -Francis Houde
  • Yeah. As IO expander is intermediate additional component , does it add any delay? If yes, what is the propagation delay or path delay of data through IO expander EVM?
  • Hello Barg,
I don't have specifics about how long it takes to toggle the IO on the GUI to actually toggling the TCA6424A's IO. There are a lot of variables. PC delay, and Launchpad delay can vary. With respect to the TCA6424, the time it takes initiate an I2C command and have it change an IO is 400nS after a stop condition.

I am not sure why you are asking this question. What are you trying to do?

  • I want to know about delay because I am using keypad before IO expander, so how long this IO expander will take to reflect the key pressed ? Is it less than 30ms??

  • Hello Barg,
Do you have the EVM? If so, then what I would do is measure the time it takes to click the GUI icon using the mouse's mechanical switch and see how long it takes to toggle the IO on the TCA6424. I would use that number and add some extra time to have some buffer.
