DP83630: Compliance with fiber - 100base-bx and 100base-lx

Part Number: DP83630

Hi,

The DP83630 datasheet explicty specifies that the chip is compliant with the 100base-fx standard for fiber communications. The problem is that my application requires up to 5km reach, implying in the use of a 100base-bx or 100base-lx standard. The IC will work with a 100base-bx or 100base-lx module (SFP or Transceiver)?

Best Regards,

  • Hi Anselmo,

As long as the SFP modules are compatible with Fast Ethernet over fiber, using them with DP83630 should be ok. The different standards in this case impact the SFP modules more than the Ethernet PHY but its good to verify compatibility in the SFP module datasheet.
