DP83620: DP83620 datasheet recommended circuitry for 10/100Mb/s twisted pair transformer interface question

Hello,

I want to use DP83620 to replace a obsoleted part LXT971A from Intel, it looks it is a good "drop in " replacement, but I found their transformer interface are different, can someone tell me if I would not change the original LXT971 transformer res & cap configuration, is that ok? what is the bad consequence if do so?

Please see DP83620 datasheet and LXT971 datasheet from Digikey to have a compare on recommended transformer twisted pair interface, looks I can't upload the clipped pic from my laptop

Hi,

Per my understanding, LXT971 is 64 pin device and will not be a drop-in replacement. Did you look at DP83848 as well ?

We have a rollover document from LXT971 to DP83848 you may want to refer.

Hi Geet,

Thanks a lot for your answer and recommendation, I want to find a PHY chip both support twisted pair and fiber interface, DP83848 doesn't support Fiber, so I choose DP83620, DP83848 and DP83620 seems quite identical in performance and pin configuration for MII interface and transformer interface, can I directly the PDF as a guidance for replacing LXT971 using DP83620

Thanks Dennis. I recommend you look at TI new Etherent 100M Phy "DP83822" released in 2016. It supports both Copper and Fiber. On MAC interface it supports MII and RMII ( both Master/Slave mode) .

What is the advantages of DP83822 compared with DP83620? they both provide Fiber and twisted pair Ethernet interface

DP83822 is latest generation of Texas Instrument Ethernet 100M Phy. Along with supporting both Copper and Fiber, it has mulitple MAC interface support, lowest power dissipation, EEE, WoL for Low Power System support, and very good EMI/EMC performance.

It's fully featured 100M device with learnings from earlier generations.
