LMH1983: XOIN+/- input single end or differential

Part Number: LMH1983

Hi Team,

Please help me to resolve problem.
We are using LMH1983 with differential output VCXO
Its amplitude is as high as 800 mV.

Referring the datasheet, XOIN+ and XOIN- can be used in
either single end or differential.

Q1. Does the device automatically distinguish single end or
differential input on XOIN+/- pin, or need to be program through
register 0x25 bit 2?

Q2. If the device automatically distinguishs the single end or differential
input on XOIN+/- pin, what criterion does the device uses?

Q3. If device requires register access to receive differential clock, how
can you realize register access?
Default register settings select single end input.
In order to change register, you need 27MHz clock however, to receive clock
You need register access.

Q4. If the device accepts both single end or differential input on XOIN+/- pin,
without auto detection circuit or register 0x25 bit 2, can the device work
with higher differential amplitude than 454 mV?

  • Dear user,

I have assigned an engineer to your request.

    Regards, Simon.
  • Hi,

    1. The device automatically distinguishes between single ended and differential inputs. 0x25 bit 2 does not need to be programmed.

    2. The pins connect to a differential input buffer stage, which acts similarly to a balun, so both differential and single ended will work (for single ended, the XOIN- pin must be biased to mid supply).

    3. No register access is needed since the device automatically distinguishes.

    4. The XOin pins can accept any voltage that does not decrease past 0V or increase past VDD. When the Vcm of the LVDS input to XOin is at 1.2V, the min and max differential input voltages are qualified to be min 247mV and max 454mV as stated in the datasheet. If the Vcm deviates excessively from this value, this range may change.
