TPS65982: TPS65982 Questions for Sleep Mode

Part Number: TPS65982
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65981

Hi, Team,

A customer has questions for the TPS65982 sleep mode

1. Is there any function to switch Power State with Active <-> Sleep with general purpose GPIO?

2. In sleep mode, I2C First Transaction Fail then wake
What is the delay time from I2C First Transaction to wake?
(The customer is asking available time of I2C read/write)

3. The customer consider to switch Power State with Active <-> Sleep with "PDIO (TI Alternate Mode) Input 1" Is there any problem with this kind of operation?

Set the "PDIO (TI Alternate Mode) Input 1" of the GPIO Event Map as one of general purpose GPIOs and toggle this signal from the EC to temporarily return the TPS65982 from the sleep mode to the active mode

4. How long does it take for the wake from changing the voltage of the GPIO?

  • Hi Satoshi,

Thank you for your question. I will take a look at this today and will respond no later than tomorrow.

  •  Hi Satoshi,

Look below for my feedback/comments in red:

A customer has questions for the TPS65982 sleep mode

    1. Is there any function to switch Power State with Active <-> Sleep with general purpose GPIO?

Unfortunately no. I2C is the method to switch power states.

    2. In sleep mode, I2C First Transaction Fail then wake
What is the delay time from I2C First Transaction to wake?
(The customer is asking available time of I2C read/write)

The delay time can be configured for either 100ms or 1s, by writing to the sleep configuration register (screenshot below). The table below can be found in the TPS65981/2/6 Host interface technical reference manual: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slvuan1a/slvuan1a.pdf

    3. The customer considers to switch Power State with Active <-> Sleep with "PDIO (TI Alternate Mode) Input 1" Is there any problem with this kind of operation?

Set the "PDIO (TI Alternate Mode) Input 1" of the GPIO Event Map as one of general purpose GPIOs and toggle this signal from the EC to temporarily return the TPS65982 from the sleep mode to the active mode

Unfortunately, I don't believe this will work. Please visit  page 20 of the TPS65981/2/6 Firmware user's guide for more details: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slvuah7b/slvuah7b.pdf

    4. How long does it take for the wake from changing the voltage of the GPIO?

Look at the response to Q3 above.

    I hope this helps :-)
