TPS65982: General questions.

Part Number: TPS65982
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65981

How would you pair the system with each other, so that we can supply the system either by the USB Type C or a plug.

We want to deliberately supply the system and not supply another system via USB-Type-C, so the starter kit is the sink.
Or is it not sensible to consider the system only as a sink?

I would still have some open points to the TPS65982:

- Is it possible to send data (in addition to the use of the TPS65982 also data) (keyword: USB3.0 - DRD)?
- Is your own firmware required? Not adjustable via bootstrapping?
O Can the firmware be imported via I2C?
- Is there a variant with -40..85 ° C (TPS65981)?
O What is the difference to the TPS65981?
- Is the TPS6598x detected when it is supplied (not the same as the Type-C as well as External)?

REGARDS,

Kamal

  • Hi Kamal,

Look below for my feedback/comments in red:

How would you pair the system with each other, so that we can supply the system either by the USB Type C or a plug. We want to deliberately supply the system and not supply another system via USB-Type-C, so the starter kit is the sink.Or is it not sensible to consider the system only as a sink?

    1) Or is it not sensible to consider the system only as a sink?

What type of host/device are you trying to build? Could you draw a block diagram and attach so that I can better understand your application?

I would still have some open points to the TPS65982:

    2) Is it possible to send data (in addition to the use of the TPS65982 also data) (keyword: USB3.0 - DRD)?

Please look at the response above about the block diagram :-)

    3)  Is your own firmware required? Not adjustable via bootstrapping?

You will need our customization tool GUI to generate the firmware and flash it onto the device. In order to download the customization tool, go here and click on "Get Software" for the "TPS6598x Configuration Tool": http://www.ti.com/tool/tps6598x-config

There's also a user's guide for the customization tool, which can be found here: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slvuar8a/slvuar8a.pdf

    4) Can the firmware be imported via I2C?

Unfortunately no because this device is a RAM based part. Take a look at the Host Interface Technical Reference manual for more info: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slvuan1a/slvuan1a.pdf

    5) Is there a variant with -40..85 ° C (TPS65981)?

Yes, the TPS65981 is the variant that goes down to -40C.

6)What is the difference to the TPS65981?

The TPS65981 is in a QFN package, and the TPS65982 is in a BGA package.

    7) Is the TPS6598x detected when it is supplied (not the same as the Type-C as well as External)?

In the configuration tool, one can map the GPIO pins to detect sourcing and sinking. Here's an app note explaining how to do this with the configuration tool: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slva838/slva838.pdf
