TPS65986: Production test setup with external DC supply

Part Number: TPS65986

Dear Sir,

We've a new product using TPS65986.

We've setup a production test station to check USB charging.

We connect:

  • CC1/CC2 from 15V USB type-C adaptor
  • VBUS from 15V DC power supply.

TPS65986 no output with this setting.

But we confirm it works with USB A charger and 5V power supply.

Could you explain why TPS65986 no output with this setting?

And any modification can achieve testing with 15V external supply?

Thanks.

Best Regards,

Kane

  • Hi Kane,

What I understand from your post is that you're connecting 2 different devices to the USB Type-C jack, one is a 15V Type-C adaptor and another is a fixed 15V power supply.

If the above statement is true then the failure you're seeing is an expected failure as in Type-C the contract starts with 5V and only after negotiations VBUS is allowed to go higher.

As explained above if the power supply you have provides fixed 15V then it won't work.

Please use a Type-C power bank directly.

    Thanks,
    Rahul
