DP83822HF: MII And RMII interface with dp83822h

Part Number: DP83822HF
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83822H, DP83822EVM

Hi,

We are intended to use DP83822H for MII and RMII interface and we are using stacked RJ45 connector with Magnetics having 8 cores.

The concern is do we really need 8 core for the connector to interface both MII and RMII..? Note : must need stacked connector because of space constraint.

Need suggestions on the connector or any suggested parts would greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Rajesh

  • Hi Rajesh,

MII and RMII are MAC interface option for the PHY, they are the pins connected to the processor. Magnetics is connected on the cable side to the MDI pins of the PHY. So magnetics selection will not depend on MAC interface option: MII or RMII. However, DP83822 is a 10/100 ethernet PHY and uses only 2 pairs of twisted pair cable so you can use a magnetics which has 4 pins for MDI connection. You can also refer to the schematics (www.ti.com/.../snlu179.pdf) of DP83822EVM for more information on how to connect Magnetics to DP83822.
