DP83822IF: EtherCat with transformerless configuration

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask DP83822IF?

Our customer would like to configure EtherCat with transformerless configuration.(AC coupling)
Because, our customer would like to uses backplane instead of Cat5e cable with RJ45 connector.
(The distance between board and board are short.)
We found the same case with TLK110.

<Questions>
-Is it possible to cofigure EtherCat with transformerless system?
(Especially, we have to consider backplanes specific - the specification requirements of the return loss for both magnitude and phase.)
-Do you have some EtherCat document with transformerless system?
-Finally, do you have actual experience EtherCat with transformerless using DP83822?

Hello Matsumoto-san,

DP83822 is approved for EtherCAT applications. This is also applicable in transformer-less applications. Using EtherCat in transformerless application is not something that is regularly seen, so I am afraid that there is no documentation dealing with this specific scenario. However the requirements for EtherCat will not change for transformer-less applications.
The difference here is that DP83822 will need 0.1uF ac coupling caps instead of 33nF caps used in the TLK app note.
