SN65HVD3082E: Power-Over-Data

Part Number: SN65HVD3082E
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD96

I am involved in a new projet with data communication on a 50Vac three phase (without neutral); I have found the SN65HVD3082E that along with SN65HVD96 maybe could do this job; in particular I would like to know:

  • If they can be supplied with a 50Vac three-phase power supply without neutral
  • If they can communicate on the same three phase multiple end point (>256)
  • Whether theycan communicate on the same stand-alone three-phase or whether you need three separate devices to communicate on the three separate lines
  • If the AC-coupling is in fact the best way to send data on the 3 phases 50Vac or is better a PowerLine Communication
  • If the component can be adapted to operate on the 50Vac three-phase, as kit for the 220Vac is already available.

Best Regards

  • You can refer to this design notes about power over rs485 www.ti.com/.../tidu993.pdf. This note shows how to use HVD96 for this application www.ti.com/.../slla336.pdf.
Back to your specific questions. I have never seen power over data for 3 phase AC. Maybe theoretically it's feasible. HVD3082 can support 256 nodes. But HVD96 is a little different, which has higher input impedance than HVD3082. The DC default voltage of HVD96 is pretty good, while the default voltage of HVD3082 is 14V. I think they're both OK for AC coupling.
