LDVS to HDMI conversion for 2560x1440 LCD

Hello,

https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/digital_interface/f/130/t/245963

I found this posting and am looking to expand on it (a few years later).

I have an old iMac with a damaged screen. It is a 27" screen with a 2560x1440.

It appears to me that the tcon board is built into the video card/mother board, sending a data signal to the lcd via an LVDS cable. In order to not lose the computer functionality because of the broken screen I am looking to create an LVDS to HDMI converter, where I connect the existing LVDS cable to a board and export an HDMI signal to a stand-alone monitor.

Is there a chip combination (and possibly an existing board design) that would accomplish this, taking into account the very large data (pixel) size? Note, sound data consideration may not be an issue as there is no sound data being sent to the LCD.

Any advice is welcome.
Thanks.

  • Hello William,

As you may notice in the thread you mentioned, we do have a two IC solution to convert LVDS to TMDS signals, however, this implementation is limited to panel resolutions of 1024 × 600. Therefore, our solution is not able to support your panel's pixel clock.
