DP83867IR: SGMII and XAUI

Part Number: DP83867IR
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLK10034

We are designing an Ethernet switch with (4 x 10G) and (24 x 1G ). We intend to implement the interfacing between PHY and MAC on SGMII (for 1 G) and XAUI (For 10G). We have chosen DP 83867 for 1G PHY .

We have the following queries :

1. Please advice the IC for 10G Phy

2. Please advice the IC for  MAC for interfacing 24x 1G (on SGMII) and 4x10G (on XAUI).

3. Do we need to use CPU/FPGA or is MCU good enough to handle switching load.

  • Hello Hiren,

Thank you for using the TI forum. Our product expert will get back to you within a few days.
  • Hi Hiren,

This seems to be an extremely large issue that is well beyond our PHY team. Switch design is an extremely complex topic.

    1. TI does not offer a 10Gbase-T PHY today. We have 10base-kr PHYs that implement the XAUI interface like the quad-port TLK10034.

    2. We do not have an IC that implements only a MAC layer. Typically the MAC layer is included in the FPGA/MCU/MPU implementation.

    3. That is a question your system team will have to answer, and how your switch fabric is intended to work, how much bandwidth you want to support.

    Best Regards,
