TCA7408: Pull-up on Reset Pin required?

Part Number: TCA7408

Hi,

According to the datasheet, there must be a resistor between RESET and VCCI if the reset input is not used.

As the Reset pin is input only, I do not understand the purpose of the resistor. To ease the complexity of the PCB and save space, it would be better to connect reset directly to VCCI.

Can this resistor be omitted?

Thanks,

Fred

  • Hello Fred,
You don't have to use a pull up resistor if you don't plan on using the RESET pin. You could argue that if you want the RESET to be somewhat filtered from noise or it adds protection from ESD strikes you would add the pull up resistor, but that isn't a requirement. You can tie it to VCCI directly for space savings and reduced component count.
