TPS65982: Using only external power path

Part Number: TPS65982

If we’re going to use  only the PP_EXT,

    1. Would I still need to connect the TI part’s VBUS to the EXT_VBUS?
    1. Do I leave the “5 to 20V” and “5V” inputs to the TI part as a “no connect” or do they  have to be connected to GND?

  • Hi Ronnie,

You would still need to connect the VBUS to the TPS65982 device. The TPS65982 has an internal ADC on the VBUS path that is used for determining if an OVP (over-voltage protection) or UVP (under-voltage protection) event has occured. Even though you do not plan on using the internal power paths, you will still need to connect VBUS to the device.
If the internal PP5V and PPHV are not going to be used, you should ground those pins as per the datasheets recommendation.

    Thank you,
    Eric
