DS90LV019: Do SN65LVDS179 and DS90LV019 support hot swap?

Hello support team,

I need your help.

My customer is on evaluation for a combination of SN65LVDS179 and DS90LV019. However, they found sometimes DS90LV019 is broken as the LVDS input as RI+/- seems short to GND. Then I asked them that is there any possibility to cause a live SN65LVDS179 connect to an no powered DS90LV019 or a live DS90LV019 connect to an no powered SN65LVDS179? Their answer was yes.

In the datasheet of SN65LVDS179 and DS90LV019 no description of hot swap, hot plugging and Live insertion. So that I’m not sure the both devices support whether support or not.

Also if the answer is not allowed such, I would like to know which device in TI support it.

Hi Izumi-san,

The DS90LV019 can support hot-swap. The DS90LV019 inputs will be high impedance for voltages between 0-3.6V as long as the GND is established. The issue seems to be an EOS (electrical over-stress) event.

Does the interface utilize any ESD suppression diodes?

In order to support a hot-swap devices like the DS90LV019 need to have the GND and supply voltages connect prior to signals.

Thanks for your response. I understood it about DS90LV019 as well. But I also want to know about SN65LVDS179. Do you know about SN65LVDS179 as the same?

The customer want to know SN65LVDS179 also.

Hi Izumi-san,

Yes the SN65LVDS179 acts in a similar manner. The GND reference must be established prior to signals to maintain a high impedance at the bus signal inputs.
