DP83848J: DP83848 issue

Part Number: DP83848J

Hello Team

My customer is using DP83848 and now they  meet a problem. The problem when they connect to PC, PC can receive the data from PHY, and PHY also received data and the data have arrived at DMA of MPU, but it cannot come into ARP analytical procedures. Could you give some ways to solve it?

Thanks.

  • Hello Xiao,

Thank you for using the TI forum. Our product expert will get back to you by Friday.
  • Hello Xiao,

If I understand correctly, the PHY can link up, receive packets, and send them towards the MAC. But the MAC cannot complete the ARP resolution.

Is the PHY configured for MII or RMII mode? Ask customer to verify that the PHY is configured to correct mode by checking register 0x17 bit 5.

Another debug step is to generate packets in the MPU and send them to DP83848J. Configure the PHY in MII loopback via register 0x00 bit 14, this will send all the packets to back to the MAC. Then check in the MAC if the packets are received without errors.

Can also you ask customer to check if other types of packets are received correctly? If other types of packets are received correctly then this points to a higher layer problem with the ARP resolution implemented in the system.

  • Hello Aniruddha
Yes, PHY is configured for MII mode. Have checked the register and it is congigured the crrect mode. Have did MII loopback and MAC is received the right packets.
We also think it point to a higher layer problem. Could you give some way or step to debug it?
  • Hi Xiao,

Since the MII loopback test was successful, I would say that the PHY is working as per system requirement. Higher level problems are more related to the software/firmware used in the MAC and it is out of scope for this forum. I would recommend contacting the MAC manufacturer or the software creator.
