SN75DP139: Reference design - FPGA retimer application

Hi,

I can't see any reference schematics for the SN75DP139 - any reason why?

I'm looking to use the device as an FPGA (LVDS output) to HDMI cable driver. It's also not clear from the datasheet if additional ESD protection devices are recommended on the HDMI connector side?

Hello Michael

I've sent you a reference schematic by email. I would like to confirm if you will have from FPGA LVDS or TMDS AC-Coupled. if your application is TMDS AC-coupled, then you can use the DP139 but if it is LVDS , you will need other solution because LVDS handle the data differently (but we have a solution as well).

Thanks for the fast response, I've received the email.

The FPGA is a Xilinx Spartan7 placed very close to the retimer. Both TMDS AC or LVDS are possible.

I need to check with Xilinx and run some simulations - TMDS is easier as I can use a 3v3 IO bank, however I only see a max IO spec for LVDS transmitters.

Ok Michael, please check it out. According to your comment, if you are looking for a retimer, I recommend you to use a DP159 level shifter retimer. The DP139 is a level shifter redriver. But first of all, check it out.

Sorry, I was a bit careless with the terms there.

Redriver is the requirement, but the extra features of the retimer are interesting and may help clean up the Xilinx output for little extra cost.
