LVDS or RGB24 or converted VGA TO HDMI.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TFP410

Hello,

I have to convert a Display Signal to HDMI and I try to convert it as fast as possible. I need to create a second HDMI connection.

The Board (IMx6) I use has a 24bit RGB interface, another 24bit RGB interface which is converted to 18bitVGA and a dual chanel LVDS interface.
I would like to convert the dual channel LVDS interface to HDMI, but I have seen that there are only ICs that convert HDMI to LVDS and no LVDS to HDMI.
I think the VGA will be very slow, because it is converted from the 24bit RGB.

Which chip ( or chips) should I use to achieve my goal?
What is the fastest way and why?

Thanks a lot

  • Hello B.B.,

I'm doing some research to determine if we have a possible solution and will get back to you by tomorrow. In the meantime you might want to use E2E Search for "LVDS to HDMI", "RGB to HDMI" and "VGA to HDMI". I noticed that others have been looking for similar solutions.
  • Thanks a lot.

I have search for "LVDS to HDMI" and that's why I think there is no IC (IC's) at the moment. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
"RGB24 to HDMI" has the "TFP410" IC, but unfortunately I don't know if there is a newer better one.
I Think VGA to HDMI is not a good solution, because it is converted from RGB24 to VGA.

    Thanks
  • Hello B.B.,

    - For LVDS to HDMI: Our best solution is described here https://e2e.ti.com/support/interface/digital_interface/f/130/t/245963 Note: Its actually LVDS to DVI (TMDS, no audio).

    - For RGB24 to HDMI (actually DVI): The TFP410 is our best solution (TMDS DVI Transmitter/Serializer, no audio)

    - For VGA to HDMI: You are correct about this solution not being optimum since there is usually an extra conversion step in the chain for RGB24 to VGA. Our best solution would be to take VGA back to RGB24 and then follow with the TFP410.
