TUSB7340: Max Power Consumption

Hi,

On the TUSB7340 datasheet I can see some power consumption numbers for different scenarios, however I couldn't find what would be the absolute maximum power consumption for each power rail. Please provide that information.

Besides, I got one of your reference design boards and the measurements I got are considerably higher than the ones on the datasheet. I also realized measurements change from one operating system to other.

Can you let me know the conditions (OS/driver/device type) that were used to get those numbers?

    The use case with 4 superspeed devices actively transmitting data should be the highest power consumption state. Different operating systems enable the USB low power states in different ways, so you will see variation in power measurements based on that.

    Please be aware that the TUSB7340 is Not Recommended for New Designs (NRND). It is an older xHCI USB 3.0 host controller and the USB specification has evolved since its release.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    Are you saying I should be perfectly fine if I use a 1W power supply for the 1.1V rail?

    Also, why is the TUSB7340 no longer recommended? What problems should I expect if we still decide to use the device? We have already invested quite some time and resources working on it to suddenly change it.

    This device was moved to NRND because it is an older USB 3.0 product and the USB specification has evolved over time. That means that this device would not be able to meet the new USB 3.1 compliance standard to receive a USB logo, even though it was compliant to the USB 3.0 specification. Also, this device requires a high level of support due to driver requirements, see the published errata.

    The power numbers in the datasheet are listed for 1.05V, so the consumption for 1.1V would be slightly higher and might be close to the maximum range of a 1W supply.
