Part Number: TUSB8041A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TUSB8041, TUSB8041EVM

Hi,

Our customer use TUSB8041 for a USB3.0 HUB project. Attached is the schematic based on TUSB8041EVM.

when they plug this HUB into PC USB port, it can't be identified. sometimes, they chip is very hot.

Can you help review the schematic and advice.

  thank you very much!

  • Hi Haroad,

If SMBUSz is held low, the hub will not connected on the upstream port until the cfgactive bit has been cleared in the registers. If the application is not using SMBUS, remove the pulldown on this pin. Also, the upstream port connector appears to be a Type A connector not the expected Type B.

In addition, if the device is hot please verify that the thermal pad connection is good.

  • JMMN,

         Sorry to clarify some information.

sometimes, when plugging to PC, it can identify the USB port and TUSB8041 temp is normal. But, sometimes it can't identify, then the TUSB8041 is hot.

  • HI Haroad,

Can you determine the power consumption when the temperature is hot. Also, please be aware that the current consumption for the hub is high during SMBUS mode, and the hub doesn't connect to the host controller. Make sure that SMBUSz is pulled high unless a SMBUS host is in use.
