TPS65982: AMIntrusiveModeResponse bit in VDMs command

Part Number: TPS65982

Hi Team,

My customer would like to send "Attention" command though VDMs 4cc command to tell DP status change to DFP from UFP(their application) in DP alt mode.
In the case sending VDMs command in AMAutomaticMode, which value should be chosen for Should AMIntrusiveModeResponse, 0 or 1?

Regards,

Takashi Onawa

  • Hi Onawa-san,

The AMIntrusiveMode will disable all of the automatic entrance and exit to alternate modes, the AMIntrusiveMode will not have any effect on the VDMs command. I would recommend leaving the AMIntrusiveMode disabled and only using the AMAutomaticMode. The AMIntrusiveMode is uses when the host EC will be used to send all of the alternate mode messaging to the connected device.
You can still send the VDMs command to changed DP status while in AMAutomaticMode.

    Thank you,
    Eric
  • Hi Eric-san,

Yes, they of course plan to use AMAutomaticMode.
I'm just asking what happens if the AMIntrusiveModeResponse bit in VDMs 4cc command is set to 1 in AMAutomaticMode.

  • Hi Onawa-san,

If you chance the AMIntrusiveMode bit during run time, the device will no longer automatically complete alternate mode messaging and all alternate mode messages would need to be sent using the VDMs 4CC command. I would recommend leaving the AMIntrusiveMode bit set to 0 and using the VDMs 4CC command when you want to change the DP status.

    Thank you,
    Eric
  • Eric-san,

As I've been saying, they are going to use TPS65982 in AMAutomaticMode and try to change the DP status by VDMs 4CC command.

In the VDMs 4CC command, there is "AMIntrusiveModeResponse" bit(Byte 1: bit7) and my customer would like to know how this bit is dealed with in AMAutomaticMode.

Which value, 0 or 1, should be set for "AMIntrusiveModeResponse" bit in VDMs command in their use-case?

    Regards,
    Takashi Onawa
  • Hi Onawa-san,

Sorry for the confusion. Setting the AMIntrusiveModeReponse bit to 1 in the VDMs command will only affect the messaging if the PD adapter is set to operate in AMIntrusiveMode. For the customer application, this bit should be 0 in the VDMs command.

    Thank you,
    Eric
  • Hi Eric-san,

Thanks for your prompt response on this.
    I understood.
