AM26LS31: Drive Capability

Part Number: AM26LS31

Hello,

My customer has a question about the drive capability of AM26LS31.

[Q]

They are going to use AM26LS31.

Their transmission line impedance is differential 100 ohm.

They are going to terminate with two parallel 100 ohm resistor.

In this case, the load impedance is 50 ohm.

Is it possible to drive the 50 ohm load ?

I think it is possible from figure 6 and figure 8.

How do you think ?

Best Regards,

Hiroshi Katsunaga

  • Hiroshi,
AM26LS31 is able to drive 50Ohm load. But there is no test data of the differential output voltage in this case. If we assume 20mA driving capability, 50Ohm would generate 1V Vod. What's the distance and data rate of your application? You can make a rough evaluation based on this information.

  • Hi Hao,

Thank you for your fast response.
    OK, I understood your comments.

I confirmed the distance and data rate of their application.
    Distance : up to 10m
    Data rate : 5Mbps

How do you think it with this information.

  • Hiroshi-san,

Since the cable is not that long, I don't expect much attenuation. I think the transmission should work. Please check the signal at the receiver end for sanity check. Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Regards,

    Hao
