TPS6598x, USB PD3.0, Fast Role Swap(FRS)

How long does it take from Vbus=Old Voltage to vSafe5V?

Basically, i know that it depends on the input capacitance of charger and the discharging resistance.

If the input capacitance is 100uF, may the discharge time become less than 20us?

And also, why isn't the macimum discharge time specified?

Thanks

Tamio

  • Hi Tamio,

There are many variables that will affect the falling time from Old Voltage to VSafe5V during a Fast Role Swap. Specifically, the capacitance on the old Source new Sink that you had mentioned. Also, the load on VBUS from the old Source new Sink will impact the fall time. There currently is no timing spec for VBUS falling since the timing will vary a lot from system to system.

    Thank you,
    Eric
