TUSB3410: TUSB3410 Connected to USB 2.0 Hub which is connected to upstream USB 2.0 Host Port

Part Number: TUSB3410

Hello,

I have a problem with the TUSB3410.

In this design, the TUSB3410 is connected to port 2 of a 7-port USB hub whose upstream port is connected to the USB 2.0 host port of a computer.

Device Manager (under Windows 7 and 10) both indicate there is a problem with the device.

The same design has worked in the past but directly connected to the USB 2.0 host port.

Can the TUSB3410 function when plugged into a USB 2.0 hub?

  • Hi,

The TUSB3410 is fully compliant with the USB specification and has been certified by the USB-IF; as such, it has to go through a series of interoperability tests which includes verifying the device operation on different USB tree topologies (precisely behind one and more USB Hubs)

If the device is working when directly connected to the Host controller, I think this is most likely a problem with your USB Hub, but I would also check for a driver installation or resource allocation issues (You can connect up to 127 USB device endpoints on the USB bus)

What is the error code shown in Device Manager?
Is there a way you can get USB protocol analyzer traces showing what happens when connecting the TUSB3410 to the hub?

    Regards,
    Jorge
  • Hi,

I determined the problem. It was a compatibility setting with the upstream SMSC USB2517B hub.
The default settings of the hub are incompatible with the TUSB3410. The problem isn't obvious but if you read the datasheet carefully you can spot it.
  • Great. I am glad to hear you figured it out.

    Regards,
