TUSB544: AC coupling capacitance at UTX1P/N, UTX2P/N, URX1P/N, URX2P/N

Part Number: TUSB544

Hi Team,

The datasheet shows the following about AC coupling capacitance at UTX1P/N, UTX2P/N, URX1P/N, URX2P/N.

On the other hand, TUSB544 EVM shows 220nF at UTX1P/N, UTX2P/N, URX1P/N, URX2P/N.
Is 220nF also recommended value?

Best Regards,
Yaita / Japan disty

  • Hello Yaita-san,

This must be a typo in the table. Per Type-C specification, the AC coupling capacitors capacitance ranges from 75nF to 265nF, and 220nF is the recommended value per Display Port Alternate mode specification.

NOTE: when you include AC caps on the RX pairs we recommend a higher value (i.e. 330nF) because these caps will be in series with the TX AC capacitance on the other side of the Type-C cable, so the total capacitance will be higher than 75nF.

    Regards,

    Diego.

  • Hi Diego-san,

I apologize it seems I may confused you..

I would like to know the recommended AC capacitance between "USB3.1/DP1.4 Host" and "TUSB544" in Figure 35 (page 45).
    (not "USB Type-C Receptacle" side)

Is 100nF recommended as Figure 35 shows?

    Best Regards,
    Yaita

  • Yaita-san,

220nF is the recommended value as well.

    Regards,

    Diego
