Dear all,

My customer have application need get 900mA and 1.5A output, they need to configure the CHG and CHG_HI to determine if it is a STD or 1.5A using external MCU, how the MCU can get the information from TPS25810 to select the proper configuration for CHG and CHG_HI.

Hi John,

How much current will the port provide max? If 1.5A is all that is needed, the TPS25820 may be a better option. It is for 1.5A max ports.

There should be no need to change the configuration of the CHG and CHG_HI pins of the TPS25810 depending on the sink connected. I would set the TPS25810 to do 1.5A if this is the max needed. The device that connects to the TPS25810 Type-C port will decide how much current it will sink based on what the TPS25810 advertises. So if a STD 900mA device is connected and the TPS25810 is advertising 1.5A, the device will only draw 900 mA.

Another questions want to clarify, if the CHG and CHG_HI are configured to 01, the CC will advertise 900mA or 500mA max sink current to UFP? and the UFP will not draw current great than 900mA?

Hi John,

It will advertise STD current which depends on if the device connected is USB2.0 or USB3.0. USB2.0 is 500 mA and USB3.0 is 900mA.

For the STD broadcast, how to identify if it is as USB2.0 or USB3.0 device connected? any other device need to be used with TPS25810 to get the proper detection?

Hi John,

There is no way to determine between USB2.0 and USB3.0 with the TPS25810. The current limit will be 1.7A either way so it shouldn't matter.
