TUSB4041I: Signal Quality Testing using USBHSET test software

Part Number: TUSB4041I

Hi, I have managed to test the High-Speed Signal Quality (HS-SQ) for the hub upstream port by enabling the TEST_PACKET using USBHSET version 1.3.2.0 for EHCI software collected from usb.org site. I have not managed to start the TEST_PACKAGE for the hub downstream ports. I assume the TUSB4041i device support test pattern to be enabled on the downstream ports 1-4. Can you please explain how to enable the test pattern for the downstream ports using the USBHSET software.

/Regards Mikael Grönhage.

  • I am using the TDSUSBF USB 2.0 Compliance Test Fixture and Tektronix oscilloscope DPO7354 3.5GHz bandwith and differential probe.
  • Select TEST_PACKET under port control and set the port number.

  • Hi, thank you for answering. I have tested your recommendation with no success.

    1) Does the TUSB4041i support TEST_PACKET on hub downstream ports, i.e. hub repeater capability to transmit properly when repeating downstream traffic ?

    2) Why do you select Port 1 under port control, your downstream device seems to be connected to Port 3 ?

    3) In doc. "USB-IF USB 2.0 Electrical Compliance Test Specification" Version 1.06 November 2016 for testing Downstream Port (hub) section 4.1.2:

       a) Using HSET (or XHSET), place the port under test in test mode TEST_FORCE_ENABLE.

       b) Generate Test Packets from upstream source (host) using test mode TEST_PACKET.

       c) Capture waveform on the high speed oscilloscope

       d) Analyze wavform for downstream signal.

  • Hi Mikael,

Sorry, my screenshot was just intended to show the utility window. When you select the hub in the "Hub Selection" window, you should not see any downstream devices attached (unless you have a permanently connected device). You don't need to select a Hub Command, the hub will generate its own test packets on the selected downstream port when selected under Port Control. For normal downstream signal quality testing, you don't want to use a repeated test packet.

Look at High Speed Signal Quality - Downstream, in this document: danahertm.app.box.com/.../hvc61sr4swcqlmm7t4wo

for step by step instructions, they are geared towards Tek scopes, but they are applicable to others too.
